Songket Bali

Songket Bali is famous for its luxury and luminous but still modest. Songket Bali was woven using silk thread as basic materials, combined with gold, silver and copper thread on top of the underlying threads (yarns are laid parallel). Additional threads generate various patterns suitable with the motive desired. Sometimes Songket Bali also combined with the ikat techniques.

In the days of the kingdoms, songket was used only by the Kings (Ksatria) or the Reverends (Brahmin), but since the 1990s a high demand for this cloth started growing up.

In general, Songket Bali can be distinguished from the type of yarn that makes up the motives. Songket Bali is using gold thread only in its design. Songket Bali that manufactured with gold thread will be more expensive especially if designed with tight and solid motives. In addition, there is also Songket Bali that woven using silver thread. Songket Bali of cotton yarn has its advantages, the design is attractive and creative because is not heavy, rigid and easy to wear rather than Songket Bali with gold and silver thread. The latter is a mixed yarn Songket, this type of Songket used a composition of gold and cotton thread, or silver and cotton yarn.
